Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

In this blog and its the respective podcast, we are going to explore some areas of holistic health and wellness, “old wive’s tales” if you will, through the lens of the skeptic.

The husband, “Barnes”, embodies the skeptic that needs numerous scientific reports from experts in every field before he is even willing to discuss an “alternative” wellness strategy without rolling his eyes.

Alternatively, Kelly, the “old” wife, likes to discuss and try out whatever new wellness trend has some credible (and sometimes not so credible) evidence to improve quality of life.

In efforts to find ways to improve our physical, mental, and social health, we are going to be putting Barnes through different “treatments” and getting his subjective and objective opinions on the benefits or lack of benefits from each. These treatments will be anything from diet eliminations to chi alignment to acupuncture to exercise and everything in between.

The goal of this experiment is to find ways to improve our health; with using the health definition from WHO of physical, mental, and social health.

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity as defined

World Health Organization, 1948

Throughout each “treatment”, we will record some of the process and hiccups that we face here. Then after each “treatment”, we will take to the podcast to get Barnes’ initial reaction. We will also describe any scientific AND anecdotal benefits of the treatment, then we will then review Barnes’ subjective and objective results.

In the end we will rate the “treatment” based on results.

So join us in the experiment!

We would love commentary on whether these “treatments” have worked for you. We would also love more suggestions on “treatments” to add to the list.
